ABC’s ‘V’ raises the bar for sci-fi remakes

Remakes of old television shows are all the rage, but only once in a while do the suits behind these productions get it right. The latest remake to hit television is ABC’s “V,” based on the 1983 science fiction miniseries of the same name about seemingly friendly aliens who invade the major cities of the United States. The aliens, otherwise known as the Visitors (or Vs), spread a message of hope to the jaded earthlings in an attempt to become the saviors of mankind. New show “V” is out of this world

In hopes of preparing viewers for the loss of prime-time’s most popular sci-fi television show, “Lost,” ABC introduced a new one last Tuesday, “V.”
The show is a remake of a 1983 series about an alien race that comes to earth masquerading as beautiful, charismatic human-like creatures. The Vs come to Earth with a promise to trade their technology with the humans in exchange for resources that they need. At the end of the hour, however, it is revealed that beneath their beautiful exteriors and philanthropic ideals lie scaly visages and ulterior motives. <Read full article>

Pop Rocks: V For Valiant

I’ve been watching V: The Series, more out of nostalgic fondness for the original than any hope the remake would be worth a damn (and I prefer a long-haired Morena Baccarin anyway). Despite solid efforts by Elizabeth Mitchell (Agent Evans) and Alan Tudyk (whose recent string of bad-guy roles threatens to tarnish my fond memories of Steve the Pirate and Wash), the feeling I’ve come away with after two episodes is a resounding “meh.” I’m sticking with it because I simply have to see how they’re going to update the immortal guinea pig scene, and also because I want to know how far they’re going to take this “liberal socialist aliens offering universal healthcare” plotline they’ve got going on. <Read full article
